CATA LOGG is a catalogue.
And CATA LOGG is the catalogue for the FOOT NOTE to the pamphlet that may have the title YEAR ZERO.
But...
First you have to be informed how time is structured within FOOT NOTE.
From one perspective much of the context of FOOT NOTE is made public on the date, that specific content was first delivered in whatever year that might have been.
But
From another perspective much of the content of FOOT NOTE is made public within a month that represents a year within the twelve year world tour of The 25 Paintings.
Thus...
January is 2014
February is 2015
March is 2016
2017 does not exist in the Penkiln Burn Universe
April is 2018
May is 2019
June is 2020
July is 2021
August is 2022
September is 2023
October is 2024
November is 2025
December is 2026
But yet another perspective, The Curfew Tower is...
Well that can wait
So anyway...
FOOT NOTE is being catalogued over 365 days, from the 1st of January to the 31st of December 2026.
But...
Over those 365 days of 2026, FOOT NOTE might be tampered with, and in turn CATA LOGG updated, thus INDX reconfigered.
But...
What follows is, as of right now, the content of CATA LOGG...

Bill Drummond is a man with issues. Some of those issues he has with himself, and some of those issues are ones that other people have with him. The stain of these issues can be found throughout FOOT NOTE. All issues fade while giving birth to others.
And...
Bill Drummond has other selves.
Also...
Within the Penkiln Burn Universe, Bill Drummond is only ever known as the former Bill Drummond, as all that is known about the former Bill Drummond is his past. As yet we are not aware of his future or if he has one.
SPOKE
WRIT
The Penkiln Burn is a small river in the far Southwest of Scotland.
The Penkiln Burn also flows through the content of FOOT NOTE.
The Penkiln Burn also gave birth to the Penkiln Burn Universe in the mind of the former Bill Drummond the moment in 1958 when he sat on a certain rock and stared into its waters.
SPOKE
WRIT
The only subjects that the former Bill Drummond was good at, when he was at school, was Arithmetic and Metal Work. Both of these subjects were based on the premise that things had to make sense. As in, if they did not make sense, they either fell apart, or you got your answer wrong.
But...
The former Bill Drummond did not want things to make sense. The former Bill Drummond found there was a war going on in his mind about things making sense and things making no sense. He wanted None Sens to win.
Because Bill Drummond passed four O’ Levels, he was encouraged to stay on at school to do A’ Levels. The A’ Levels he chose to do were Maths, Technical Drawing and Logic.
He chose to do Logic in hope that he could use it to undermine the argument for things having to make sense. But however many times he wrote in his jotter, 3 + 4, it always added up to Seven.
Although he was drawn to the fact that mankind had decided to base everything on the power of ten, which made no sense, compared to basing everything on the power of twelve. As in, mankind had learnt to count using their fingers. And for whatever reason mankind had evolved to have ten fingers. For sense to prevail mankind should have had twelve fingers.
But...
The lack of sense of things being based on the power of ten was not enough for him.
So...
When the Penkiln Burn Universe started to evolve, he encouraged it to embrace a view where numbers could be based on the power of One, Four, Five, Twelve, Seventeen, Forty, Sixty and One Hundred, all in parallel and all at the same time.
Thus...
These various chosen numbers would be in constant conflict to gain power in the Penkiln Burn Universe.
And...
Where possible numbers should be written as words, as that made little sense when attempting to do the Math.
There is a darker side to these competing powers. And that darker side does relate to the Power of Ten. At some crossroads in his life the former Bill Drummond arrived at a thought pattern where he thought he should never be fucked by the same woman more than ten times. But when he shared this thinking with a woman after she had fucked him nine times, he found that she found this thinking both alarming and offensive.
Thus...
He thought that maybe he should only ever allow one woman to fuck him no more than four time.
But anyway...
Enough of the former Bill Drummond’s darker side and back to the more interesting stuff.
It was after being asked to leave school at Easter in 1970, that the former Bill Drummond decided to dedicate the rest of his life to the pursuit of things not making sense.
The first thing he did was ditch the copperplate way he had been taught to write and had done so for all of the previous ten years. And embrace a writing style only using un-joined upper-case letters. This took him several months to master. But once he had done, he never went back to his copperplate ways of old (except when his other self William E. Drummond signs his name on a wall in a tunnel on the North Circular)

But...
Back to his O’ Levels... The former Bill Drummond failed both English Language and English Literature. This was in a large part due to the former Bill Drummond’s rejection of spelling. The former Bill Drummond was driven by an urge that language should be fluid, and the fact that spelling, as taught by his English teachers, was not fluid but fixed, seemed to be criminal act within the free-flowing evolution of the mind and imagination. As in, this fixed idea of how words should be spelt seemed to hold language back from evolving.
Part of this rejection of spelling evolved from his urge to evolve a written version of his spoken language, that used words, with no more, and no less, than four letters in each word.
This in part came from his internal conflict between the Scots language of his childhood and the English language of his teenage years.
In Scots it was Kirk, but in English was Church.
In Scots it was Auld, but in English was Old.
As in...
Why use six letters when you could use four?
Or...
Why use three letters when you could use the more solid four?
This way of thinking made no sense, thus the former Bill Drummond to this day, has attempted to structure a written language that only ever uses four letter words.
But...
He has rarely used this language except when conversing with himself. That said, he converses with himself more than he converses with any other living beast.
As for Art...
The former Bill Drummond chose not to do Art as an O’ Level subject because...
The former Bill Drummond viewed Art as tool used by those in control to control the people who wanted to be out of control.
This form of control took the form of seduction. Not sexual seduction but the seduction wrapped up in the wrapping paper of Self Expression.
As in...
Art, and by extension all of the creative endeavours, was no more than the PR department of those in control.
I mean...
Art just pandered to those in power while pretending to challenge those in power.
For these reasons...
Art had to be destroyed or at least dismantled by using whatever means necessary.
That said...
The former Bill Drummond would not have been able to express such thoughts at the age of fourteen, when he was choosing which subjects to take for O’ Level.
Thus...
These theories that have evolved in his head over the past forty years, are just what he chooses to project onto the memories of his fourteen-year-old self, in the hope if he projects it hard enough it will become a truth, if not a hard fact.
I mean...
Back then when he was fourteen, he chose not to do art because he thought he was not good enough at drawing pictures, but thought he was good enough at making things, so he did Metal Work instead.
At least with doing Metal Work, he could learn to make a gun.
I mean...
The revolution will not be a drawing, however good the person drawing the drawing is good at drawing.
I mean, a drawing is just something you hang on a wall, in metal work you could learn to make a thing to knock over that wall.
Anyway...

The former Bill Drummond does not have an addictive nature, but he is drawn to things having a twelve-step programme, as in the twelve steps taken by those attending Alcoholics Anonymous.

The first Penkiln Burn Poster appeared sometime in the dying years of the last century. There was to never be anymore that 1,000 different Penkiln Burn Posters. As of know there is unknown number of Penkiln Burn Posters. These posters exist(ed) to be flyposted on walls across the continents. Most of these posters have failed* to achieve this aim. Twenty-Nine of the Penkiln Burn Posters are being specifically flyposted on one wall over a twelve-month period, and photographic evidence of each of these flypostings are to be posted within the context of FOOT NOTE, on various days throughout the year. Or that is the proposed plan at the time these words are writing themselves.
*Fail Lure is the one consistent in the Penkiln Burn Universe.
While there is still a Penkiln Burn website, individuals might be able to download PDFs of these Penkiln Burn Poster, for them to then print and flypost themselves wherever they think they should be flyposted.

Flyposting on a rival flyposter’s territory can result in your death.

The 25 Paintings suppress and control.
The former Bill Drummond is suppressed and controlled by The 25 Paintings.
The 25 Paintings have history.
Their history, like all history is subjective.
As in...
History exists to reflect the narrative of our own times.
Anyway...
This subjective history is told at various intervals throughout the 365 days of FOOT NOTE.
But in the meantime, in case you did not already know, The 25 Paintings have been on a twelve year world tour. As in, from 2014 to 2026. As in, 2026 being the final step in their twelve year world tour. And that, in 2017 they had an early sabbatical.
And that these...
As in, The 25 Paintings are repainted each year of their twelve year tour of the world. And it is the layers of their journey and not what you might see on their surface that is the content of these paintings.
What lies on the surface has very little currency within the Penkiln Burn Universe.
“Don’t judge a painting by what you see hanging on the wall.”
The former Bill Drummond might have proclaimed all sorts of things back in 2014, as to what this twelve year tour of the world was to be about and where it was to be going. And how it was to end on the road to Damascus. But The 25 Paintings had other plans, as did the world, and the physical and mental health of the man who carried their easels. Maybe there is more than one road to Damascus.
Anyway...
For each of those twelve years, Tracey Moberly has diligently photographed and filmed each of those 25 canvases that make up The 25 Paintings, as in both individually and collectively.
And...
Over the twelve months contained within the 365 days of FOOT NOTE, each of those months will be designated to present the documentation of each of the steps taken in their twelve year world tour.
Thus...
For the first 25 days of each month there will be one photograph per day of each of The 25 Paintings.
And...
On the 26th day of the month, there might be collective photograph of The 25 Paintings.
And...
On the 27th day of the months, there might even be a short film of The 25 Paintings.
Thus...
This is the proposed break down of documentation...
January –2014: Birmingham, England
February – 2015: Belgrade, Serbia
March – 2016: Kolkata, West Bengal
April – 2018: Lexington, North Carolina
And maybe this is where wheels either started coming off or there was a spoke in... or a creative derailment started to take control.
May – 2019: Galicia, The Iberian Peninsula
June – 2020: Bingöl, Kurdistan via a Kurdish barber’s shop in L16, with COVID and brain seizures
July – 2021: Great Yarmouth as in the stand in for Papua New Guinea
August – 2022: Corby, Northamptonshire
September – 2023: The North & South Circular and the battle for control with Scissorman
October – 2024: Graceland in The Glens, Cushendall, Ireland, where Paint started to take control
November – 2025: Enter The Galloverse
And maybe...
December – 2026: Lost at Sea*

Over the decades the former Bill Drummond has filled SCOR of NOTE BOOK with his four letter words. This was all being done in his attempt to create a dictionary of his four letter word language*. The dictionary was to have the title of FOUR LETA WORD.

The former Bill Drummond suffers from a condition known as HEAD PAIN.

The only known cure for this condition is for the former Bill Drummond to paint his head. This he did 25 times in the year of 2014, in the hope that it would relieve him of the condition for the coming years of The 25 Paintings twelve year world tour.
That 2014 PAIN HEAD was documented by Tracey Moberly and this documentation should be there throughout the January 2026 Chapter of FOOT NOTE.
As of right now...
The former Bill Drummond hopes to re-enact this PAIN HEAD indulgence at some point in the coming year of 2026.
And for the evidence of this indulgence to be contained within the December 2026 Chapter of FOOT NOTE

Physical books like to have back covers where they can display words to celebrate the importance of that book’s existence. Penkiln Burn Books are not above this vanity. The first Penkiln Burn Book was published in 1998. It was proclaimed by some that there were never to be more than forty different Penkiln Burn Books. Each of these forty books with words on their back covers to celebrate their importance.
But...
As of right now (November 2025), it is known the proclamation, of there never being more than forty Penkiln Burn Books, to be hollow. As in, as of right now there are several would be Penkiln Burn Books competing with each other to be published as physical books. And queue jumping is very much frowned upon by those others that exist within the Penkiln Burn Universe. Each Salmon has to wait their turn to make that leap up to next level of the Penkiln Burn. That said at least six of the Penkiln Burn Books never existed in a physical form but only in the spoken form – more of them later.
Back Cover Mondays are to be numerous Mondays scattered across the 365 days of FOOT NOTE, when photographic evidence to the back cover is displayed for 24 hours, and a recording of the former Bill Drummond’s recitation of those words on the back cover, are there, to be listened to.

Life on earth has a tendency to measure time. The Moon and the Sun compete with each other as to how, this life on earth chooses to measure time. The former Bill Drummond is torn between the Moon and the Sun.
And...
Life on earth attempts to control the passing of time by the marking of it.
The former Bill Drummond marks it by...
The arrival of the first Snowdrop in January until the Last Leaf Falls in December.
The arrival of the first Swift in May until the gathering of the Swallows on the telegraph wires in September.
And of course, that moment when the tide turns from Ebb to Flow in the Wigtown Bay, and he feels that deep rush inside his body.
But it is in his domestic life in Suburban North London where he attempts to control time by his annual making of forty jars of marmalade. And this is what he calls Marmalade Time.

This attempt to control time using fort y jars of Marmalade began for Bill Drummond on the 1st of February 2014, as in when he built the shelves to hold forty jars of the marmalade that he had just made and attached the shelves to his then kitchen wall just under the kitchen clock. At night he could hear the clock and the Forty Jars of Marmalade converse with each other.

Anyway...
The photographic evidence of Marmalade Time between the 1st of February 2025 and maybe the early days of January 2026, will be posted throughout the 365 days of FOOT NOTE, as in, on the 40 dates where the next jar in line is found to be empty. This means the final days within FOOT NOTE will appear before the first days.
Marmalade Time also marks the first of the FOUR RECIPES to be included in FOOT NOTE.

Tributes are what we all pay to those that control us.
As in...
To quote Wikipedia, a tribute is “a recognition of political submission by the payer to the payee”.
But...
What words mean, shift and shimmer down the generations. For some a Tribute is still saying something nice about somebody else. For others a Tribute is a band that plays the songs of another band that once were famous and might still be famous for certain people of a certain age.
In the future Are we all tributes to what has gone before?
In the Penkiln Burn Universe, The 25 Paintings commanded that they should be paid tributes by the former Bill Drummond. And that these tributes should take the form of twelve sets of 25 A4 paintings. Each of the twelve sets to representing a step in the life of The 25 Paintings between 2014 and 2026. As in when they were first FOUN and when they will be forever LOST.
There are some Selves within the Penkiln Burn Universe who consider these Tributes as nothing more than mere ARTI FACT created for consumers in the future.
In the future, will the only job fit for humans, go by the job title Consumers?
Will we have to serve apprenticeships to learn how to be better Consumers?
Will there be games where we compete with each other, as to who can Consume the most.
Will the winner of such a game be given the title of MOST.
‘I am The MOST’
Will MOST become their tag?
But back to TRIB UTES
Are we all just of what has gone before?
Does AI just exist to make better Tributes?
Or have these Tributes* that exist in the Penkiln Burn Universe been cynically produced for an art market of the future.
Or...
If these Tributes of The 25 Paintings are in fact stalkers, hoping to gain some reflected glory, from the real things.
Anyway...
The twelve sets of Tributes may or might be documented on the 28th day of each month in some way over the twelve months of FOOT NOTE. We will see.
*TRIB UTES are also part of the currency used by CREE BANK.
By constructing other selves for ourself, often helps us to escape who we think we might be.
By constructing other selves about other people helps us to think they are special.
Special can be good, bad or even indifferent.
The former Bill Drummond has attempted to construct many other selves over the previous seventy-two years and counting.
The vast majority of these other selves he has cast aside in preference for the new kid on the block.
Many of these other selves he has long forgotten.
Others may wish he was still one of those other selves that they once knew or even constructed themselves, with no knowledge on his part.
The Penkiln Burn Universe has been littered with these other selves that he has constructed and then cast off.
At the beginning of The 25 Paintings twelve year world tour back in 2014, the former Bill Drummond’s other selves strode and strutted their way, across the globe of intentions.
What follows are a list of some of those former other selves
The Man Who Painted The 25 Paintings
The Man Who Stacked The 25 Paintings in the back of a White Ford Transit Van
The Man Who Drove a White Ford Transit Van up and down Motorways
And then...

The Man Who Blew His Horn
The Man Who Built His Bed
The Man Who Rode His Raft
The Lone Sweeper
The Shoe Shine Boy
The Climber of Trees
The Baker of Cakes
The Knitter of Stiches
The Maker of Soup
The Man in the Barbers’ Shop
The Man who Fell
But not forgetting the silent thirteenth...
The Man with No Shadow
But he did have a Shadow.
Or...
Others saw the Shadow, even if he did not.
And here creeps in the analogy...
Unlike Peter Pan before him, the former Bill Drummond never wanted to have a shadow.
As in...
The former Bill Drummond always felt he was haunted by that shadow, judged by that shadow, harassed or even harnessed by that shadow.
But...
As for Captain Hook...
It was in seeing a version of Peter Pan the Musical at Chicken Shed last year (2024), that the former Bill Drummond realised that Peter Pan and Captain Hook are one and the same but at different ends of their lives. That Crocodile and his Ticking Clock were there in him and in turn all of us.
I mean, Ishmael was only waiting his time to become Ahab.
As implied earlier...
The former Bill Drummond has had various other selves over the previous 72 years (1953 – 2025). Many of these other selves have been constructed as a mask for the former Bill Drummond to hide behind.
That said...
Some of that hiding has released hidden aspects of the former Bill Drummond’s inner self. Maybe that is what the Masked Ball is for*. Some of those other selves are what people have projected onto him.
*Of course this sentence begs the question...
Is life no more than one long Masked Ball?
Is our only EXIT the one provided by Our Death?
Or...
Did Shakespeare have that covered in As You Like It?
Anyway...
The first known evidence of the former Bill Drummond using another self, was in 1959 while standing on the steps of the Newton Stewart Picture House with his big sister and wee brother. This other self went by the name of Cave Boy.
Although the Shakespeare quote has been sidestepped the following one has not been...
“We are only whatever other people think we are, however, hard we might try to define who we are ourselves.” To quote the former Bill Drummond.
Sometime around 2018, there was a shift on the cultural tectonic plates was standing on. This shift meant that those various other selves listed above, that were competing for your attention at the beginning of The 25 Paintings’ twelve year world tour toppled over into the abyss. There were no life jackets let alone life boats to save them from drowning.
But...
What seemed to survive was a collection of other selves that climbed out of the Qwerty world of the first computer keyboard that he had just bought. These other selves did not exist in any sort of physical form, but in words and sentences and even paragraphs on the screen in front of him. But they were still masks even if not the physical ones listed above.
What follows are a list of some of those other selves that the former Bill Drummond has masked behind since that shift in his internal tectonic plates.

There have been reports that admin@penkilnburn.com has still been sending out emails unbeknown to the former Bill Drummond.
And although admin@penkilnburn.com is one of the former Bill Drummond’s other selves, it is spoken by Angie Darcy.
The Part Time Painter is one of the former Bill Drummond’s other selves.
The Part Time Painter has been painting part time ever since the toddling Bill Drummond first picked up a paint brush and attempted to paint the wall in his bedroom in The Manse. The Part Time painter was less interested in what he painted and more interested in the act of painting. If Bill Drummond was asked if he had a hobby he might have said collecting birds’ eggs, or stamps, or coins or going fishing, or making things. But in reality, his only consistent hobby to have lasted down the years and through the decades is being a part time painter, that and looking out of windows.

Brush is the one and the many at the same time. Brush is both the paint brush that The Part Time Painter might be holding in his right fist right now, as well as being every paint brush The Part Time Painter might have ever held in his fist while painting the paintings that wanted to be painted.
As in...
From the moment he first picked up a paint brush in his toddling years, to where he is now in his stumbling years.
Over those intervening years the former Bill Drummond, be he either The Part Time Painter or even a local artist, has often found himself thinking it is the paint brush in his fist, that has controlled the actions of his right arm. Both Mallet and Pencil think they had more control over his actions (creative or otherwise) than Brush ever had.
Brush, at times, has also claimed to be one of the former Bill Drummond’s other selves. Whereas both Mallet and Pencil know they are their own selves.
Brush has also elected himself to be the sometime Shop Steward representing, not only all of the former Bill Drummond’s other selves but attempts to represent all those that might attempt to interact with the Penkiln Burn Universe. It is not known precisely when Brush took up his role as Shop Steward.
And...
As of right now, it is not known when Shop Steward will fall under the wheels of corruption as many union representatives have done before him.
The Bank Manager is the sometime bank manager of Cree Bank, especially between the dates of the 1st of April and the 11th of May each year. VAPE SHOP exists to celebrate the city he both loves and loathes and has lived in for longer than he has lived anywhere else in his life, but he is in denial that he has ever actually lived there.
But...
VAPE SHOP does not exist outside of the M25.
VAPE SHOP both rages at and embraces the dying of the light.
VAPE SHOP has been contracted to distribute 400 copies of the long playing record EMOTIONS by The Tied Hands to 400 different charity shops within the M25.
And...
While distributing those copies of the said long playing record, it is hoped that VAPE SHOP will also be leaving copies of the pamphlet YEAR ZERO on the top floor of bus across this Bleak City.
VAPE SHOP is in love with litter, broken paving stones, looking at the world from the top deck of buses, being on crowded buses when there is only standing room, when he can close his eyes and soak himself in the sound of all the voices around him.
Hope has never found a home in the Penkiln Burn Universe.
But...
Hope has declared there will be a day, when this website does not exist, it will be VAPE SHOP that will be the Paper Boy selling and delivering the physical copies of FOOT NOTE.
But we digress...
Back to those novels
THIS BOOK is the address / phone book that former Bill Drummond wrote in and used between the Autumn of 1978 and the Spring of 1983 (or was it 84?)
William E. Drummond has claimed this book to be his first novel.
Within the context of FOOT NOTE, this book exists over a 95-day period between the 1st of September and the 3rd of December. On most of these dates a photograph of a two-page spread from THIS BOOK will be made available for inspection, and or listened to being recited as a spoken novel.
Some might consider THIS BOOK to be a relic from another time and place.
William E. Drummond considers it to be the most vital and real novel he has ever written.
We like a graphic novel...
Or we have done since we first read WATCHMEN in 1987.
The former Bill Drummond’s idea of turning A Life Model into a graphic novel, was to invite 160-something, randomly selected individuals with no known talent for drawing, to illustrate one randomly selected year of the 70 years contained within A Life Model.
But...
There were strict instructions.
Each illustration had to be done using an HB pencil on a sheet of white A4 paper. And the illustration had to be in landscape dimensions.
Bill Drummond then planned to use these illustrations as a starting point, for himself or others to interpret. Maybe a woodcut version. Or an AI version. No, forget that, maybe not AI version
As of now (31st of May 2025) no interpretations have been done (AI or otherwise).
Thus...
It might be that each of these illustrations, by randomly selected people etc etc... will be posted on the same day as the year in A Life Model, that they have illustrated.
We will see...
Post Script:
All the randomly selected will be credited.
For some reason people are addicted to seeing their names in the credits more than attempting to engage with work. We think every road you drive down should have a notice with the credits of all the workers that worked on building the roads. Or every banana you buy should have the name of the person who picked the banana signed on its skin. Or maybe it is only artists that have the weakness of wanting to see their name in the credits.
Maybe there should be an Anti Credit protest movement.
Imagine a world without credits
It is easy if you try...
We just read the book, hear the record, watch the film and we never know who wrote, sang or directed it.
I mean...
Credits are just part of a class structure for the creative elite.
Best Before Death is a docudrama film made by the Irish director Paul Duane.
Best Before Death is a fictional documentary of the Kolkata and Lexington steps of The 25 Paintings’ twelve year world tour.
Best Before Death was released into cinemas in the UK and Ireland in 2019.
The former Bill Drummond plays the part of the then Bill Drummond using as his template the character of David Brent from the mockumentary The Office.
Within the context of FOOT NOTE Best Before Death might be screened every 29th of April.
Best Before Death was not the first docudrama film made to document the work of the former Bill Drummond played by the then Bill Drummond.
That first docudrama went by the name of Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow And All Music Had Disappeared.
a local artist is dismissive of The 25 Paintings.
a local artist thinks that The 25 Paintings are not real art.
Thus...
a local artist took it upon themself to paint twenty five proper paintings on his wall under Spaghetti Junction. Each of The Twenty Five Paintings depicts something of passing importance to a local artist if not the former Bill Drummond.
Documentation of each of The Twenty Five Paintings will be made public in the month representing the year they were painted. Photographic and filmic documentation of each of The Twenty Five Paintings was done by Tracey Moberly.
a local artist might be dismissive of The 25 Paintings
But...
a local artist accepted a commission to paint the title of each of The Twelve Steps of The 25 Paintings’ twelve year world tour, on his wall under Spaghetti Junction.
Tracey Moberly accepted the commission to document each of these paintings of the titles of The Twelve Steps. This documentation will be posted on the first day of each of the months of the year.
How these are documented and presented within the confines of FOOT NOTE, varies but strives to be consistent. Consistency is overvalued.
Websites were once considered the future.
Websites are now considered the past.
But we are locked in the present.
And in this present, it has been decided that the various Websites that the former Bill Drummond instigated in the past, should be museum-ified, so that in the future you can look at the past and wonder what that was about.
These Websites went by the names of...
www.youwhores.com
www.mydeath.net
www.nomusicday.com
www.the17.org
www.thecurfewtower.com
www.penkiln-burn.com
The penkiln-burn.com one was the first and the last of those websites. It went DARK in 2017, to mark the moment when websites had become a thing of the past.
The museum-ified versions of these six websites can only be viewed on their six individual designated days within FOOT NOTE.
But...
There were two other Websites that were instigated by the former Bill Drummond and built by Gavin Bush. They were and might still be...
www.60sixtyseconds.com
www.penkilnburn.com
The 60 Sixty Second one exists for 60 days within FOOT NOTE
Whereas...
The www.penkilnburn.com one exists for the full 365 days of FOOT NOTE.
Now is not the time and place to go into what, when and why is The Curfew Tower. There is too much to go into, as in if we did, there would be no time for any of the other things that are supposed to be covered in this catalogue that goes by the name of CATA LOGG.
All you need to know now is...
The Curfew Tower is in Cushendall in the Glens of Antrim in the north of Ireland.
And...
It has been acting as an Artists Residency since the late 90s. And each year, since 2009, It has been curated by a different set from around the world.
And...
On the evening of the first Wednesday of August since 2000 for 24 years straight, the work of the artists that had done time in The Curfew Tower was celebrated in various ways.
The one consistent in those celebrations has been...
The bonfire in The Curfew Tower’s backyard.
And...
The Curry served up to all, in the kitchen of The Curfew Tower.
The bonfire instigated by the former Bill Drummond.
And...
The Curry making and serving instigated by John Hirst.
But...
The baton of the Curry making and serving was handed over to the Tracey Moberly after the John Hirst could no longer resist the call of the wild and advanced himself towards Anchorage, Alaska. Fairbanks be damned.
But...
Ken Bartley has been attending and observing and documenting the affairs of The Curfew Tower since he first attended a Curry & Bonfire Night on Wednesday the 11th of August 2010.
Ken Bartley is in the process of distilling his observations and documentations into what might be a physical book that might claim to be a history of The Curfew Tower.
On the Wednesday of the first full week of each of the 12 months contained within FOOT NOTE, it is hoped Ken Bartley might share some of his thoughts and memories of each of the twelve Curry & Bonfire nights that Ken Bartley attended between 2010 and 2024.
Cree Bank is a bank that is only open for Forty Days each year.
Those Forty Days are the 40 days leading up to Gallows Night on the 11th of May.
Cree Bank is likely to crash and burn after the 11th May 2028.
CREE BANK is also the title of a novella by William E. Drummond.
CREE BANK the novella was published in an edition of 400.
100 copies of CREE BANK are for sale each year for four years as from 2025 until 2028.
But...
A spoken version of CREE BANK will be available to listen to, on any of the Forty Days the Cree Banks doors are open.
The former Bill Drummond thinks all words should have no more than four letters in them.
Or...
The former Bill Drummond thinks all words should have no more than four letters in them.
So...
The former Bill Drummond commissioned a local artist to paint a twelve of those four letter words on his wall under Spaghetti Junction.
Someone commissioned Tracey Moberly to document some of this selection of these four letter word paintings.
As of November 2025, a local artist has decided to break his contract to complete his painting of those twelve four letter words.
To quote...
“If he wants to have those meaningless words painted under Spaghetti Junction he can go and paint them himself.”
The documentation of four of those four-letter words are being exposed on four days within FOOT NOTE.
The 25 Comeback Special was a three act play performed at the Cushendall Golf Club on the evening of the 30th of August 2025. The play was constructed by all those that performed in it and all those that witnessed it.
The Shop Steward is the title of a novella by William E. Drummond*. This novella is comprised of all the missives sent by Brush (The Shop Steward) to fellow workers. These missives were sent out from sometime in the first half of 2025 up until the last was sent out on the 30th of August 2025.
Each of these missives will be aired within FOOT NOTE, for the 24 hours on the dates they were originally sent.
There are those that consider the combined content of The 25 Comeback Special and the novella The Shop Steward, as the marking point when the mind of the former Bill Drummond fell into the world of GONE.
Damson Time is when the Damson are ripe for plucking in the hedge rows along the Great Lane in Bierton in the Vale of Aylesbury.
Damson Time is the first two full weeks of September most years.
Damson Time is when Penkiln Burn Books, that have not found their way to the SKIP, might be available for sale via www.alimentation.com
Damson Time is also when the former Bill Drummond makes six jars of Damson Jam from the Damsons he has picked in Great Lane.
This is also the time when the third of the RECIPES will be published.
The recipe in question is a recipe for the making of Damson Jam
DARK is made up of several days in early Autumn, where everything in one’s head goes dark. And one’s thoughts are at their most negative. And one is allowed to celebrate this negativity and embrace futility and all the mistakes in life you have made.
The former Bill Drummond has ongoing issues with recorded music. As much as he has an urge to reject all recorded music, there comes a time when even that tide turns, and he finds himself embracing it.
Recorded Music lies and deceives.
Recorded Music flirts and flatters.
Recorded Music dangles fame and fortune.
Recorded Music even offers life after death.
And of course...
Recorded Music exploits your longing for your lost younger self.
In the early years of this century the former Bill Drummond attempted to murder Recorded Music. He failed. Recorded Music just laughed at his failings and went on its way.
The former Bill Drummond now likes to think he has done a deal with Recorded Music. In this imagined deal, Bill Drummond has agreed to oversee the birth of Five Long Playing Records, each of them containing a form of Recorded Music. The former Bill Drummond likes to think that part of the deal is that he has agreed that these five Long Playing Records must never be pressed in editions of no more than 1,000 copies, thus that illusion of ‘fame and fortune’ can be kept at bay.
And...
These Five Long Playing Records go by the names of and are by...
Voices From The Galloverse by The Penkiln Burn Players
STAY by The Artists in Residence
EMOTIONS by The Tied Hands
True To The Trail by Those That Knew
And...
LOST by The Nine Women
And...
Where and when these five long playing records might exist within the walls and structures of FOOT NOTE is as yet unknown.
That said...
Historically...
Voices From The Galloverse by The Penkiln Burn Players was only to be available at future performances given by The Penkiln Burn Players.
There are those in the Real World that believe the five long playing records released by Penkiln Burn Recordings do not exist as physical objects thus only exist in the Fake World.
Which begs another question.
In the war between the Real World and the Fake World, which side will win?
The former Bill Drummond, in whatever self he chooses to be, loves bridges.
The former Bill Drummond has always aspired to be a bridge.
But...
The former Bill Drummond was told by his career’s advice officer at school that there were no apprenticeships for lads to become bridges down the steel works in Corby.
So...
The former Bill Drummond attempted to follow a different path.
The former Bill Drummond considers the greatest work of art that he has ever been involved with is the building the Old Matford Lane bridge over the M5 just southwest of Exeter. This was in the summer of ’75. As in sometime after him hearing Down By The Jetty by Doctor Feelgood but before hearing Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen.
But...
Sometime after the year 2003 but before the year 2013, the former Bill Drummond graffitied the words IMAGINE WAKING UP TOMORROW AND ALL MUSIC HAS DISAPPEARED, under forty different bridges around the world. But in whatever the spoken language of that part of the world was.
Within the context of FOOT NOTE, photographic evidence of twelve of these vandalised bridges will be made available. Each piece of evidence will exist for one day per month and no more. The photographs of these bridges have been selected by John Hirst, who worked with the former Bill Drummond on The17 from its inception in 2003 until its end in 2013.
Is ‘no more’ better than ‘loads more’?
The making of soup was invented on the same day the rainbow was invented.
The former Bill Drummond grew up in a world where he thought the making of soup began with the opening of a tin of Heinz Tomato Soup.
The world he grew up told lies.
Institutional lies.
It was not until the former Bill Drummond was in his 30s did he learn that soup could be made in other ways other than by opening a tin of Heinz Tomato Soup.
For as yet unknown reasons, the former Bill Drummond has chosen the 14th of October to be his annual Make Soup Day.
Thus...
It will be on the 14th of October that the fourth and final RECIPE of the year will be published within FOOT NOTE.
The 14th of October will also be the day that the NOTICE with the title SOUP LINE, will be published on FOOT NOTE.
And...
Sometime between the years 2003 and 2013, the former Bill Drummond instigated the writing of several hundred scores to be performed by the fictional choir known as The17.
These scores mainly took to form of written words on posters. Twelve of the scores mainly taking the form of words on posters will be posted within FOOT NOTE. One per month over a 365-day period. What day of the month, at the time of these words being written is unknown.
Is it better to be known or to be unknown?
Or...
Is it better to know or not to know?
And again, the twelve chosen scores have been chosen by John Hirst.
Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow and all Music Has Disappeared is not only a recurring graffiti on bridges around the world, but the title of a film made by the Swiss director Stefan Schwietert.
As in...
Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow and all Music Has Disappeared being that first docudrama where the former Bill Drummond plays the part of the then Bill Drummond.
But...
Instead of using David Brent from The Office as his template, he uses the character of Nigel Tufnel from This is Spinal Tap as his inspiration.
Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow and all Music Has Disappeared was shot to document the closing months of the life of that fictional choir called The17. Those closing months being in late 2012 into early 2013.
Imagine Waking Up Tomorrow and all Music Has Disappeared was released into cinemas in the German speaking countries of Europe in 2015. Within the context of FOOT NOTE, it might be screened on every 22nd of November in those years that remain.
The 22nd of November being Saint Cecila’s Day.
Saint Cecilia being the patron saint of music.
Do you have a patron saint?
What are patron saints for?
No Music Day was on the 21st of November for five years between 2005 and 2009.
No Music Day was on the day before Saint Cecila’s Day.
The 21st of November is the day in the year when a link to the website www.nomusicday.com might exist, while the world wide web still exists.
There are others who continue to mark No Music Day. One of those others is the Austrian composer Scharmien Zandi
https://scharmienzandi.com/
Who or what The Tied Hands were is open to debate and discussion. Much of what is open to debate and discussion is contained within a series of missive sent out into the World Wide Web between the 21st of October 2025 and the closing days of December 2025.
Why is Andy Warhol Shite? is probably the final novella to be written by William E. Drummond. That said it is an open-ended novella, that others can respond to by offering answers to the questions contained within the novella. That said Why is Andy Warhol Shite? is only open for consumption between the 15th of November and the 24th of December each year.
Some might proclaim that Why is Andy Warhol Shite? gave birth to the movement GONE. You decide.
The SKIP is where all the physical objects that have gathered dust in the Penkiln Burn Universe over the previous 30-something years are to be dumped in the year 2027 – if we have not run out of time by then. There may be more to SKIP, but as yet we are not too sure what that ‘more’ might be.
TAKE is an exhibition where everything exhibited within it has to be taken.
TAKE thinks of itself as a performance art piece.
TAKE is a rival to SKIP
GONE is a movement which will have no structure or strategy.
But
GONE’s proclaimed aim is for its members is to attempt to cleanse their lives of the rot that may have infested every part of their being by American Cultural Imperialism.
GONE invites anyone and everyone to be a member.
GONE invites you to be as hardcore as you want or a light weight as you want.
Membership is what you decide it means to be a member of something or not.
GONE requires you not to sign up or swear allegiance or even know what GONE really stands for.
Other than the fall of American Cultural Imperialism.
If you decide you are a member you can write your own manifesto.
That said the former Bill Drummond has written his 95 points for discussion and has proclaimed he will nail them to the door of the American Embassy in London on the 31st of October 2027.
That said the former Bill Drummond hopes others might list their 95 points for discussion and nail it to a door of their choosing.
GONE is also the title of the closing chapter of Why is Andy Warhol Shite?
Thus...
GONE, the closing chapter, can be read within the confines and structures of FOOT NOTE between the 15th of November and the 24th of December 2026
All movements are short lived. Or at least in their rawest of forms.
It is often the post movement that is the longer lasting and more influential.
As yet...
We have no idea of what the Post Gone world might look like. Or if the vacuum created by GONE just allows for an even worse and all-pervasive cultural imperialism to fill and pollute all our lives.
What a Muse might be is up for debate.
Within the more traditional History of Art, a Muse is usually considered to be a female of younger years that can trigger emotions in a male artist of somewhat older years. And for the male Artist to use those triggered emotions into a work of Art. If there is a transaction between the Muse and the Artist, it is not for us to know.
But...
Judge we will...
That said...
The Muse seems to have gone out of fashion in the more contemporary world of Art as we know it.
But...
None of the above has stopped the former Bill Drummond aspiring to be a Muse for Hire for most of his life.
First...
As a baby, he cut his teeth, even before he had any teeth, as a Muse for others to peer at, so they could feel those emotions that are triggered in people, when they look at babies.
Then...
As a pupil in various classrooms between 1958 and 1970. His main role then was to be the Muse for the teachers to trigger their rage and wroth at. That said many of his fellow pupils fulfilled the same role. As in, the teachers’ appetite to express their rage and wroth at the former Bill Drummond’s generation. As in, what we now call the Boomer Generation. As in, this generation that had never gone through and won a war, thus saved the world from Nazis, and Fascists and even the Communists, but just spent their time listening to 7” records and dancing the Shake, or whatever the dance craze for that moment was.
The high tide mark of this chapter of the former Bill Drummond’s talent as a Muse for Hire, was on the first day of the Autumn term in 1968, when the former Bill Drummond, instead of wearing either a white or grey shirt with his school tie, wore a brightly coloured Paisly Patterned shirt, that he had bought in Carnaby Street that Summer. Although there is no evidence of this moment happening, the former Bill Drummond wardrobe department, still has the brightly coloured Paisly Patterned shirt in case it is ever needed in his craft as Muse for Hire.
Then...
From the age of eighteen onwards he has fulfilled the role of being a young man, a middle-aged man, and even an old man, to trigger the emotions of disappointment, resentment and anger, within a select few women. As in, when these select few women realised the former Bill Drummond was not the suitable partner that they had so creatively imagined him to be. But merely a Muse for Hire.
Then...
There was also a time in the late 1980s and early 1990s where young men who might be the type of young men to read music papers and have opinions about things and why things are the way they are and what things should not be the way they were. For some of these young men the then former Bill Drummond would be their conceptual muse of choice, without even knowing that such a transaction was taking place. But they too would be disappointed, in their choice.
I mean...
Is it the job of a Muse for Hire to trigger all of these various emotions.
But...
Who actually pulls those triggers?
But...
At some point after the mid 1990s, these young men were not as young and no longer needed what the then former Bill Drummond provided as a Muse and they found other Muses to satisfy their needs, even if they did not know that is what they were doing.
But...
Over the intervening years the former Bill Drummond has refined his talents at being a Muse. A Muse that no longer triggers either positive or negative emotions but is just there to do what is required. And in doing so has revived some of the more traditional tropes of Muse-dom. These more traditional tropes of Muse-dom can be observed and judged in several hundred photographs and films constructed by the Tracey Moberly. And in this role, he has learnt to do as he is told. Look this way or look that way on command.
Is BILL DRUMMOND by TRACEY MOBERLY both a film and an exhibition in the waiting?
I mean...
Is the stench of that future BILL DRUMMOND by TRACEY MOBERLY exhibition or even film, smeared across the pages of FOOT NOTE?
As for a future Bill Drummond being a Muse for Hire, make your offer and we will ask the future Bill Drummond to respond.
Farewell Farewell is song the former Bill Drummond first heard in 1969, sung by Sandy Denny on the Fairport Convention album Liege & Lief. A version of this song was sung by Leo Condie and recorded at the La Chunky studio in Glasgow by Murray Collier. This recording was to be used for the closing scene of the film STAY.
But...
Then in April 2024 Bill Drummond found himself being transfixed by the Netflix series Baby Reindeer, only to be devastated while watching the closing scene of final episode hearing they had used the Fairport Convention’s Farewell Farewell over its closing scene.
Something had to be done.
Thus...
The Leo Condie version was not to be used over the closing scene of STAY.
But...
Leo Condie version Farewell Farewell would be used as the soundtrack to the closing day of FOOT NOTE.
Listen and be damned.
FOOT NOTE also has enough vanity to consider itself to be a sculpture. A sculpture primarily constructed from time and words, but with some photographs and film clips thrown in an attempt to hold the viewer’s attention* for the required 365 days of time and several million words.
FOOT NOTE might also be a local newspaper published weekly over 52 consecutive weeks. Where and when and how and why this newspaper might be published is yet unknown. Is the unknown more alluring than the known?
The only character to survive the decline and fall of the Penkiln Burn Universe over the months of 2026, might be the lonesome and lonely, loner VAPE SHOP.
Who or what VAPE SHOP might be and the characteristics he may inflict upon this world might become more apparent during and beyond these coming months as he trudges the streets of this Bleak City while wondering at the glory of it all. Or at least the glory that can be found in cracked pavements and discarded laughing gas canisters and the world observed from the top deck of buses, and in his tags on flyposted poster and his fantasies about his life and work being the drama for a future biopic of the same name as his tag.
Lost, if the former Bill Drummond’s favourite word.
The reasons why forests exist in humankind’s imagination is so that they can get lost in them.
It is with getting lost that adventures begin.
Thus...
The word LOST, is not only to be the title of the final LONG PLAY record to be released by Penkiln Burn Recordings, but the final painting on the wall under Spaghetti Junction to appear within the context of FOOT NOTE
