Kind Folk,
Top Cat was the first TV programme Bill Drummond fell in love with. This was in 1962, when he had just turned 9 and the Drummond family had just got a television set.
And...
If you don’t know, Top Cat was an animated cartoon featuring a gang of feral cats in the back alleys of New York City.
Bill Drummond’s life has been defined by feral cats.
Top Cat, as in the protagonist of these stories on TV, lived in a Dustbin. Bill Drummond has spent most of his life wishing he had lived in a Dustbin*.
*And for a stray North American reader, read that word as Trashcan.
Anyway...
Not only does the Galloverse embrace the notion of being feral...
It seems the whole Penkiln Burn Universe has been driven by its inner feral, since its birth several trillion years ago.
Like...
In the past few moments (as in decades) this embracement in the Penkiln Burn Universe includes the publication of the book RAGWORTS (2012).
And the celebration of hedgerows of Fuchsia across the north of Ireland.
And the Rhododendron hanging over and hiding the entrance to the tunnel on the far bank of the Graddoch Burn.
And of course, the Buddleia in its glorious attempts to bring down man’s corrupt dominion on this planet.
All of them feral.
So...
No wonder the Galloverse has been attempting to appropriate the term ‘feral’ to describe certain of its ventures in the world of the ‘here and now’.
As in the HEAR HARD performances hosted by those that have been willing to stake claims and take the risk.
The first of these Feral HEAR HARD performances happened in the early afternoon of Friday the 26th of July 2024. It happened on the top of a manhole cover where the five roads meet...
And that Magnolia Tree once grew...
And the Interstellar Ley Line crashes through.
This performance was instigated by that stake-claiming risk-taking Lou Lou Whalley.
Other Feral HEAR HARD sessions will be performed at a growing number of locations around the globe.
These performances include those...
In the forever troubled Holy Lands.
On the banks of the Sturgeon Bay.
At the official opening of the Penkiln Burn Arctic Library.
And down under...
On the trail of a Tasmanian She Devil.
Evidence of each of these performances is to be collected and collated.
And...
Tracey Moberly will then be editing them into a motion picture in an attempt to consider what might or might not have happened.
